When you grow up crossing the border regularly- to go to work, a family get-together, shopping, or out for a meal- you get used to seeing your identity shift with the ground under your feet. Where you stand in a country's social structure oscillates from one side to other. Crossing the border means becoming an other, whether it means becoming an outsider in new territory or coming to understand yourself within another social structure. Crossing borders is a form of dialogue and a measure in destabilizing patterns of inequity.
