Textured Travels

I recently took a road trip from Washington D.C. to Colorado, crossing several US states with my cameras and films in my backpack, in an effort to use them to the max. 

These works are combinations of the photographs I took on that road trip, along with a visit to Puerto Rico. 

In each city  I visited I was drawn to the textures of the streets, the sidewalks, the walls, the doors, and just about any surface with an almost natural pattern to it. 

I enjoy filling my life with as many patterns as possible, on top of more patterns in a mixture of red, black, and white. I found the negative space of the sky to be more pleasant when filled up with a pattern, imagining what we would see if we were to see well beyond our own sky into space. 

The combination of spaces, both near and far from each other, creates new connections  when I think back about the places I visited. Several common threads between different locations are found, once the images that help keep my memories have been woven together. It is my way of feeling differently about the past by texturizing the memories with new meanings.
