Ghana Series

Sharon Adebisi

London, UK

A series journaling the emotions encountered by a westernized British-Nigerian (the artist),
upon visiting the ‘motherland’ Africa for the first time.
These images were captured
from Kumasi,
a city in Ghana rich in Ashanti history and culture.

The series starts of portraying the artist's initial reservations and doubts before embarking on the trip,

and then takes us on a journey of her feeling overwhelmed upon arriving in the country,

to then becoming acclimatized, to then finally feeling like she has found a new home.

About the Artist

I am a 23 year old self taught British-Nigerian artist,
and I use my paintings to visually journal my emotions as I embrace the world of adulting.
Whilst my pieces are created more for self-reflection and release,
a welcomed by-product is others being able to relate to their subject,
or be positively influenced by my thought processes.
