Jello Salad

In "Jello Salad",  viewers were invited to lift the hem of my peignoir, serve themselves a slice
of jello salad, and leave a slip of paper with their grandmothers names
and a memory in place of the slice.

Exploring
the normative behaviors, dress, language, and food of the 1950s, my work
encourages viewers to look at contemporary standards of comportment that we
take for granted. What has carried over from the past? What should we keep and
what can we discard from an era rife with racism, homophobia, and sexism?
Employing outdated dress and food as a vehicle of thought; viewers are
encouraged to look at their own lives in an active, instead of a passive,
manner.
