Gong Indie Art Hall, Seoul, South Korea  |  5.23 - 6.1.2014

In May 2014, EAS arrived in Seoul, South Korea with the work of eight Crossing Borders artists, we teamed up with local curators and invited five Korean artists to create new work broadly based on the theme.  Gong Indie Art hall in the Yeoungdeungpo district of Seoul is a defunct industrial warehouse turned Art Hall which hosts a wide array of exhibitions, screenings, workshops, and events.  In recent decades, Korea’s art and culture has rapidly flourished; it is now pushing the boundaries of long-held taboos, largely in response to the rise of new technologies, public resources, and social infrastructure. This shifting sociocultural landscape has stimulated the development of new and experimental models of artistic production. Seoul Edition illustrates a shift towards direct interaction with audiences and the reinvention of representational strategies.   The artists engage with themes of identity and community, form and function, the indigenous and the exotic, and the old and the new.  The collaborative exhibition provided an platform for the artists to engage in an international dialogue on the artistic representation of shifting social, cultural, and political terrains.
